Because people have expressed issues with our current FA compensation pay outs, (say the following with Trumps voice) and "they're the best in the world because I said they are" (end Trump's voice), I have been giving some thought about how to fix them between experiments.
Because I cannot generate the supplemental draft pick round like in the real MLB or more advanced versions of OOTP, I am suggesting that we take advantage of the bonus I already give everyone who shows up to the draft and allow fringe players in a given round become better prospects, essentially allowing a comp pick to have happened earlier in the draft then it actually does. We would not implement this until 2050, but wanted to get the ball rolling on talking about this before long!
Tweaking the FA compensation pay out:
Compensation for Type A: First signing will be the 1st round pick of signing team and +10 TALENT points if the pick is #16 and above Second signing is $20 million + 12 TALENT points to original teams 1st round pick Third signing is $30 million + 17 TALENT points to original teams 1st round pick No additional Type A signings allowed
Cash will be moved from signing team to previous team at the time of the signing from now on.
Compensation for Type B: First signing is second round pick + $5 million + 10 TALENT points to this pick Second signing is third round pick + $10 million + + 20 TALENT points to this pick Third signing is fourth round pick + $20 million + 30 TALENT points to this pick No additional Type B signings allowed

Like but clarification needed. By 16 and above you mean 16-30 correct?

Just to clarify how this works. Team A and Team B each have a player leave via FA and are type A FA's. Team C signs both players. Team A's player signs first, so they get Team C's first round pick, and if that pick is #16 or higher, they get 10 talent points to that pick. Team B will get $20M plus 12 points added to their own first round pick. Is that correct?

I like it but Id tweak it to make it a little less complicated, cash amounts go up with multiple signings but all signings get +10 rather than it increasing

Like but clarification needed. By 16 and above you mean 16-30 correct? Yes, if the comp pick is between #16 and #30, that pick would get the extra points ----------------------------- Commish Heis

Yes, since team B would not be getting a pick, they would be able to improve their own pick that round (assuming they have it). ----------------------------- Commish Heis

Seems unnecessarily complicated, but that's more a Dave issue -- added time working on it -- than anything else.
How about taking the team's 15th round pick (and working backward) and editing them to a 20-year-old prospect with the same potential of the player lost?
I think compensation shouldn't result in a lost pick by the signing team -- I've never understood this in real MLB -- but rather a player of similar potential returned in a draft pick. IDK IDK IDK

I think its an improvement over the current system, which has been fine one year and extremely unfair the next. I say give it a go and see how it works for a few seasons.
